Ed Rana
Artist Biography

Ed Rana is a Pawleys Island, South Carolina–based photographer who features coastal landscapes, Lowcountry scenes, and wildlife captured in natural environments. His body of work is broad in scope, unified by a focus on fleeting light, atmospheric change, and the quiet moments that define a sense of place. Whether photographing along the coast or more remote settings, Ed seeks to capture scenes as they naturally unfold, guided by patience, observation, and respect for the environment.

Photography has been a lifelong passion for Ed, beginning in high school with sports photography that led to images published in The Washington Post. Over the years, his work has appeared in a variety of regional and national publications and has received Best of Show honors and other awards in national and international exhibitions. For more than twenty years, Ed has shared his experience through workshops and presentations focused on capture, digital processing, printing, and presentation.

While living in Arizona, Ed held leadership and instructional roles within local and statewide photography organizations. Since relocating to South Carolina in 2021, he has become actively involved in local photography clubs and guilds.

Ed is deeply engaged in every stage of the creative process. He captures, processes, and personally prints all of his work, ensuring that light, color, contrast, and tonal depth reflect his original intent. His photographs are produced exclusively with archival materials, and final presentation—including matting and framing—is often completed in his studio.

Ed’s work is exhibited throughout the Grand Strand, including shows at the Rice Museum in Georgetown, South Carolina, and has been juried into festivals such as Brookgreen Gardens Art Festivals and the Atalaya Arts and Crafts Festival.
